In July, an SC bench directed state and central governments to take preventive, punitive and remedial measures to stop lynching incidents in the future. The Centre and states have to file compliance reports on a series of directions given by the SC to prevent and punish lynching. "It has to be curbed with an iron hand," said the top court.
